Effects of the Treaty.

  1. Loss of Land:

bullet

Made Germany a less powerful country ----> Causing many to dislike as it took away pride.

bullet

It also meant, industrial land was lost. Meaning Germany had no way to make money. Fuelling Hyperinflation as they could not pay off war debts.

2. Reparations

bullet

Because Germany had to keep paying off reparations with the little money they had it meant that no money could be spent elsewhere. Leading to Poverty and a Bad social situation. This built on the discontent for the Treaty and the Weimar republic

bullet

Fuelled hyperinflation as they had no money

3. Restrictions on Armed Forces

bullet

Germanys pride was hit. As they had no money they were now weak. This led to Political discontent i.e Kapp and Munich Putsch.

4. War Guilt Claus

bullet

Blamed Germany for the war. Many disliked as it knocked there pride and it led to the other features of the treaty. This led to overall discontent

5. No union with Austria

bullet

Austria was Germanys cultural partner, denying them the right to combine angered many. They saw it as an unfair restriction this then led to discontent socially and politically.

So, overall the Treaty blamed Germany for the war and each term had a negative effect in all three areas: Social, Economic and Political with strong links between them all.

Economic problems cause by reparations-------------> Social problems because of no money---------------------

--------------->Political opposition because of poor state of country. And coalitions fell so extremists could take power.
